Porcelain laminate veneers are aesthetic restorations applied only to the front surface of teeth that might be discolored due to aging, root canal treatment or old composite fillings, etc., worn/broken over time, misaligned in a way that negatively affects aesthetics, crooked or have gaps between them.
After a slight preparation of the enamel layer on the front surface of the teeth is performed unlike crowns, they are prepared in the laboratory to be applied to the teeth one by one, using intraoral scanners and CAD/CAM systems. They are then applied to the teeth with a special bonding method called “adhesive cementation”.
Advantages:
- They prevent excessive tissue loss in teeth.
- They have no aesthetic difference from crowns.
- By preventing tissue loss, they eliminate both tooth sensitivity and risks such as secondary caries, need for root canal treatment, etc.
- They are much more resistant to abrasion, fracture and discoloration compared to aesthetic composite fillings; so they are suitable for long-term use.
