Restorations such as inlay, onlay, overlay, endocrown are preferred in cases where there is a level of damage in the teeth where it is not considered appropriate to fill them directly with composite in the mouth, where the strength of the teeth is desired to be increased, and where a better seal is attempted to be provided.
Compared to composite fillings, they have higher fracture strength and are better adapted to the healthy tissues of the tooth than a large composite restoration. In this way, existing healthy tissues can be better protected, a more controlled function can be given to the tooth and a better barrier can be obtained against secondary infections.
