3D Occlusal Splint / Nightguard

Parafunctional habits such as clenching and grinding, which can occur due to stress or many other reasons, can put extra load on the teeth and cause wear, bone loss, etc., as well as negative effects on the joints. As a result of the joints being exposed to excessive load for long periods of time, both temporary and permanent discomfort can occur. At the same time, volumetric growth and pain can be encountered in the chewing muscles, which are active beyond physiological limits during teeth clenching, over time.

In such cases, a digital design is carried out with the digital impression made from the mouth, and then the occlusal splint produced with a 3D printer is applied to a single jaw. Thus, patients can be relieved by increasing the vertical dimension, lengthening and relaxing the contracted chewing muscles, making the joint position healthy, and providing only point contact between the teeth that may have shown wear. While these splints can show their effects in short-term use, their usage periods can be extended depending on the severity of the case, the patient’s stress management, and the ability to restore lost dental tissues with various prostheses and maintain health correctly.
