Cyst Removals

Cysts can be encountered in the jaw bones, either related to the teeth or independent of the teeth. Cysts, which are generally detected in radiographic examinations, can sometimes cause symptoms with the pressure they create when a chewing load is applied to a tooth, and sometimes with a fistula opening extending outside the gum.

Small lesions left at the root apex as a result of inadequately performed root canal treatments, when left untreated and left in that area for long periods of time, can melt the bone, expand their volume and turn into a more persistent cyst form. Although it is possible to treat these lesions with root canal treatment, if they become cysts at a level that will disrupt bone integrity, they must be removed surgically under local anesthesia.
