Root Canal Treatment

In deep caries, the area called pulp, which contains blood vessels and nerves within the canals after the enamel and dentin, may be affected by the it. This situation may sometimes cause pain symptoms spontaneously or with a stimulus such as hot/cold or chewing, but sometimes it may occur without symptoms as a result of necrosis (loss of vitality) of the pulp. In such cases, root canal treatment should be applied to remove the pulp of the relevant tooth, namely the blood vessels and nerves from that area, to disinfect the inside of the canal, and to create a highly impermeable barrier between both the root apex and the upper part of the tooth facing the inside of the mouth.

Apart from caries, root canal treatment can also be applied due to necrosis of teeth due to accidents/traumas, or inappropriate positions of teeth in the area where prosthesis is planned. In cases where root canal treatment is inadequate, effective disinfection is not performed, secondary caries or inadequate barrier formation results in both the root canal and the root apex being re-infected, retreatment (renewal of root canal treatment) can be applied to the relevant tooth.
