Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is an esthetic procedure where the existing tooth color is lightened by applying bleaching agents such as hydrogen peroxide to the teeth in cases of age-related, mild/moderate tooth discoloration due to medication.

There are basically office and home teeth whitening systems. Office whitening is a treatment type performed by applying a bleaching agent to the teeth for one or more sessions under the supervision of a dentist for certain periods of time and at the same time increasing the effect of this agent with a light device. Home whitening is a treatment type performed under the supervision of the patient by applying a bleaching agent that is less concentrated than in office whitening into a special plate produced for the patient. This treatment can be preferred in some cases in addition to the office type, and sometimes in cases where the aim is to extend the treatment period in persistent discolorations.

The biggest advantage of teeth whitening is that esthetics can be achieved without any intervention to the tooth surfaces, as in esthetic fillings or porcelain restorations. After teeth whitening applications, care should be taken not to consume coloring foods, especially in the first weeks; this prevents the color obtained from quickly returning to its original state.
